The great animation, the impressive voice impersonation; it was all wasted. Could there have been a more predictable, more boring, more expected, more played-out, more unexciting way to characterize the Vinyl Scratch/Octavia pairing?

It's such a cute concept; it begs for countless twists and surprises; and instead the best we could do was hack out the most generic, obvious personalities from the two ponies that one could imagine from what we know of them. Scratch is the 'quirky, loud' one, Octavia's the 'serious' one... *hides face from embarrassment from lack of creativity*.

All the other, little scenes and stories don't help much.

So Discord comes back. Okay, any twist? Any weird distraction? Anything creative?

A date goes bad. Okay... joke? Comedy? Got any sort of humor of any kind?

Only good part was the way Vinyl Scratch acted at the end about the sandwich. See, THAT is the kind of goofball creativity that was rich in Epic Cupcake/Pie Time; just have more of that and we'll be good!

I'd like to be able to say "do it right next time and no harm will be done", but I'm not sure; as much time and effort that I see went into this one, I fear it will rest on the permanent record of everyone involved--mostly the animators--as a humiliating waste of time.

47times responds:

Well I can assure you that the result, at least for where we are now, is not the most important thing for us, so even if everyone didn't like it, it wouldn't have been a waste of time. Even though it was very well received by most, and we knew that not everyone would like it for what ever reason, what we learnt from feedback and just the process of making it certainly wasn't a waste of time.

Super sucky

Well that completely sucked! Given the amazing time constraint, that's no surprise, so be sure to remember Madness Day earlier next time!

CONSTRUCTIVE TIME!!!
Have the characters move more. Every few frames, they should twitch or move slightly, it makes them seem more natural, and it's what the official Madness movies do.
Don't have such bland text for the lesson. It makes people not want to read it as much.
Have less-random metal music.

CapnChaos responds:

Apparently the more rational minded people reviewed this first. I appreciate the fact that you actually reviewed this, instead of just saying "lol this suxx!!".

However, I know the faults. This is not even closely made through my best efforts. Like in the description, very last minute. I did it in less that an hour the night before.

Bad start for a series

I don't care that this first episode was too "short", something interesting just needs to happen, is all!

Art style's decent, so it's okay, but not okay by much.

BombSquad5 responds:

Ok thanks for the critique, i felt that way too after it was done.

I say no again

Excuse me, my original review--like a lot of reviews I write--offended a lot of you because of its low score. But to my discredit, I didn't go in-depth with my review, and therefore it was removed for being pointless. So let me start over. *ahem* This is a worthless piece of balls.

Because it's not funny.
Because it's not entertaining.
Because it's has no purpose whatsoever.
Because the "60 frames" gimmick is retarded.
Because half of them aren't even good-looking.
Because they have no sound of their own and the music choice was lazy.

I hope you all had fun making so much nothing.

Go shit in your hand

Hilarious

Lame animation, blah blah blah. Not really any effort put into the humor either. Just laughing for fifteen seconds isn't supposed to be funny.

PS: I'm still laughing

Truly, the master of minds

Yes, awesome!

You--Mr. Swain--get comedy. You understand that it's a mere series of jokes that must be strung together to weave a basket of funny. You understand that doing what the audience didn't expect (or didn't have enough time to think of) is funny.
You also understand that the "evil villain who's actually goofy" routine has gotten REALLY old, so you've put so many brilliant spins on the tired joke. Making him actually be and act threatening, for one thing!

This one might not be as good as the fourth; mainly because it felt really short. But episode 5 is meant to be short, isn't it?

I've been a fan of yours all the way since... uh... *checks* Blockhead episode 9. Unfortunately, because of the series' shrinking consistency in new episodes, along with you doing less and less stuff I personally care about, I've been kinda pulling away from you. This definitely helped put you back on my personal map, though.

PS: Hey, you know who ELSE gets comedy? Michael SwaiM on Cracked.com. Yes, with an "m." Holy shit.

The-Swain responds:

Swaim did some review of things he hated I think, and mentions getting called "Swain" pretty often

I b pleased

Oh sweet. I so would have paid $14.99 to see this!

ScrewdriverClock responds:

Well thats good, because thats exactly what I charged your credit card for!

weiver yM

Well that... wasn't exactly very funny. But hey, I really liked the animation and voice acting. So it's still pretty good. It was charming and smile-worthy for a while, unfortunately though; just as it may have started to get good, it ended. What an awkward ending that was.

"But Davoo, darling, you don't understand; it was supposed to end spontaneously. That was the joke!"

Yeah, about that. The whole "sudden ending" thing is funny in theory, and can be done properly, but for God's sake; don't end it all of a sudden when it starts to get interesting. I seriously wanted to know how that guy was going to fix his predicament. It was going to be like a PG-13 episode of the Fairly Odd Parents. That would have been really cool. But no; make way for the 'spontaneous ending' joke. Or, to be more accurate; make way for the animator being too lazy to write a full story and covering it up with humor.

Zeurel responds:

"Or, to be more accurate; make way for the animator running out of time and having to come up with a quick and to the point ending"

There, fixed.

About that...

I totally agree. Thanks to consumerism: no one's life is perfect. Thanks to consumerism: there aren't any really cool stores like Vintage Stock (which is a great store chain that definitely doesn't exist) that sell GBA games, GB games, NES games, frakking ATARI games, ext. Thanks to consumerism: they've been able to produce all these nice cool planes and shiz that get you from one place to another really fast, but very boringly. The good old non-consumerism days of traveling by boat for three months were much more exciting.

This flash sucks, by the way. Maybe it would have worked if you had put your rant into, maybe, the actual flash instead of the comments, perhaps? -_-

WikkiXS responds:

I wish you knew what you were talking about... Or actually I wish you would leave the internet.

Bad

The lame joke in question hit just the right random-spots for my personal sensibilities to make it funny. Unfortunately: your voice is generic and charmless. Therefore; this doesn't work. What a shame; it was so close. :(
